BinaxNOW testing is available to our DMH approved/contracted community providers through DHSS. Please complete this 2 to 3 question survey to help us identify your interest in this option by 3/5/2021. Once we determine interest, we will schedule a WebEx with providers and DHSS to review the requirements. Additional information is below to assist you with your decision:
- BinaxNOW is a rapid, self-administered test (under the observation of a trained individual).
- BinaxNOW can provide false negatives and false positives. They are most accurate for symptomatic individuals.
- Accuracy improves with more frequent use (daily, 2x, or 3x per week) for asymptomatic individuals.
- Those wishing to order and administer BinaxNOW must have Dr.’s order to administer tests.
- If a facility has a medical director or physician, it would be under their order.
- Facilities without a medical director or physician could utilize a standing order from the State Department of Health and Senior Services.
- Those wishing to order and administer must have a CLIA waiver.
- If you do not have one, facilities may utilize the CLIA waiver through the State Public Health Laboratory.
- Those wishing to order and administer must complete training requirements and documentation requirements.
- The State Public Health Laboratory has online training modules that facilities must complete, as well as the appropriate documentation of that training.
- Anyone who goes through the training can administer a BinaxNOW test.
- Once trainings are complete, you can begin ordering and using the tests.
- Facilities must report EVERY test result (positive and negative) to the Department of Health and Senior Services.
- There is a prescribed method for reporting that will be part of the training requirements.
- At this time there is no charge for the tests but that may change in the next couple months.
- DMH will continue to cover testing costs for providers so long as we have access to CARES Act funding for this purpose.
- Anticipated costs for BinaxNOW would be $10 or less per test.
